Appreciating the “little” things
Have you ever found yourself in one of those moments, in a good way? By that, I mean a truly gratitude-filled, life is awesome, I wouldn’t change anything about this, I did something right moment?
I had one of those this morning with this little munchkin. While Daddy was at his race, A and I had a healthy breakfast in the hotel (with pretty good coffee for me) and decided to go on a walk. We found a nice path and ended up by beautiful red rock mountains with an idyllic view of a bridge over a river.
A looking up at the enormity of the red rocks in front of her. It’s amazing how quickly and effortlessly she translated what she saw to her paper with crayons, markers, and more.
As we walked up to the bridge, my daughter was getting tired and wanted to turn around. “Just to the bridge,” I urged her, and I’m so glad that I did. When we got there, we stopped, sat down to rest, and took it all in.
My spidy-mama sense (that autocorrected to spicy, which is also true) urged me to bring along some paper and art supplies, so A was able to draw everything she saw — the red rocks with all of their different layers and colors, the little bits of green plants sticking out here and there, a couple of canoers paddling down the river,…
It was one of those magical moments in life where everything seemed, dare I say it, perfect. I wouldn’t have traded that moment for the world.
What made it so special, I wondered? The weather? The scenery? The company? The coffee? All of the above and then some. In that moment, I forgot about the hustle and bustle of getting to school, to work, back to school, and home again. I was simply present to witness the wonder of my child. It was, literally, awesome.
